Reading Notes: Twenty-Two Goblins , Part B

Goblins: The Snake's Poison
A goblin told the king a riddle. If the king gets the riddle wrong, the goblin leaves and he has to go back to the sissoo tree to get another goblin. If the king gets it right, then the goblin continues on the journey back with him to the monk.

Hariswami and his wife, Beautiful, were sleeping on the balcony under the moonlight. A fairy prince came flying by, and kidnapped Beautiful. Hariswami, distraught, set out to search for her when he woke. It was a very hot day, and he was tired, hungry, and thirsty. He came upon a village, where he saw many Brahman's eating. One of the Brahman's wives felt bad for Hariswami, and made him a plate of food. Hariswami went down to the pond to wash his hands, and drink. While he was doing that, a hawk above had a poisonous snake in its mouth, and from the snake' mouth dripped poison onto Hariswami's food. When Hariswami ate his food, he felt sick and soon died. The Brahman's wife was accused of poisoning him.

The goblin asked the king who should be responsible for Hariswami's death, and the king replied that if anyone was to blame it should be Hariswami himself because he was accusing others for poisoning him. With this being said, the goblin hopped down and ran back to the sissoo tree.
