Feedback Thoughts

Silence the Critical Voices in Your Head

I think, at some point, everyone has doubted their abilities. No one is perfect, yet we all strive to be. When we realize we aren't perfect, we criticize ourselves. Personally, I am very critical of myself even when I constantly succeed at something... I think it's just a normal part of being a human. You might be disappointed in what you've created, but in someone else's eyes it's incredible. When it comes to feedback from other, this article makes a great point. People do tend to take the negative things and hold onto them, losing sight of the positive. Someone could say "Wow, I really love this painting overall, BUT I wouldn't buy it because I really don't like the color yellow." It's so easy to automatically get stuck on the "but," and start doubting your talent altogether.

Why it's So Hard to Hear Negative Feedback

I think this article hits the nail right on the head. If you could just believe that everyone who gives negative feedback is sincerely just trying to help you improve, it wouldn't be such a big deal. Yet, here we are wanting to be perfect and impressing everybody, that we get upset when someone says that something should be changed. It's easy to get in your head and assume that whoever is giving you this negative feedback doesn't like you, or they're going to fire you because it wasn't perfect. But honestly, if someone was truly acting in good faith, they would let you know if there was a mistake because they want you to succeed. I think it's incredibly important to learn how to process negative feedback in a constructive way. I honestly love constructive criticism because I strive to be the best I can be.
